What are your credentials and scope of practice?I hold a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia Okanagan and am a Registered Kinesiologist with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK #2019425). I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, Size Inclusive Fitness Specialist, and Yoga Teacher. As noted on the BCAK website: "Kinesiologists design and conduct health and wellness programs for all age groups, teach and organize courses and workshops in health promotion, including general fitness, sport performance, athletic training, human nutrition, and general issues related to a person’s physical well-being." My degree and continuing education have equipped me with the health promotion and behavior change skills required to be a personal health coach. For complex needs, collaborating with other healthcare providers such as doctors, counselors, dietitians, physiotherapists, or psychiatrists may be necessary for effective care.

What is the difference between a coach and a counselor?A coach and a counselor may seem similar, but there are key differences. As a health coach, I focus on guiding and supporting you in achieving practical, behavior-based changes that align with your goals. I provide accountability, motivation, and tools to help you navigate your well-being journey. Counselors, on the other hand, often work on deeper emotional or psychological concerns, addressing past trauma or mental health conditions. My role is not to provide therapy, but to empower you to make sustainable changes to your well-being.

Can you help me lose weight?I don’t focus on weight loss as a goal. However, I understand the pressure to lose weight in today’s society and won’t judge those desires. Instead, I’ll help you identify the underlying health outcomes you're seeking—such as increased energy, physical strength, or improved mental well-being—and we’ll work together to achieve those goals through sustainable behavior.
-
Will you give me a meal and exercise plan?I don't provide meal or exercise plans because they're not long-term solutions for building a better relationship with food and movement. Instead, I’ll help you develop the skills to plan meals and design a movement routine that aligns with your preferences and adapts as life changes. The goal of this approach is to let go of rigidity so that movement and eating become natural, enjoyable parts of your life long-term.

Do you accept insurance?Clients with extended health insurance or active ICBC claims may have coverage under Kinesiology; check with your plan administrator. Payment is due at the time of the session, and refunds are not available if a claim is refused. If covered, you can submit your receipt for reimbursement. We can discuss this in your first session, and I’ll assist you in accessing any entitled funding. I also offer flexible payment options and packages to make coaching accessible. Feel free to email coach@hannahclare.ca for more details.
